Therapeutic Approach

I use a combination of therapeutic approaches to tailor-fit the best treatment plan for your specific needs and goals.  Together, we will determine what you want to accomplish through therapy and how we are going to get you there.  I am sure you have heard of all kinds of acronyms that represent various treatment modalities like EMDR, CBT, ACT, DBT, RAD, WTF (ok, maybe not the last one), but it can be overwhelming.  Here is a very brief description of some of my favorite techniques that I draw from, and if you would like more information, feel free to reach out, or even ask Dr. Google.

 

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an evidenced based practice that focuses on challenging and changing our thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes and their associated behaviors to improve our mood and develop personal coping skills that target solving current problems.

 

Mindfulness based therapy combines the ideas of cognitive therapy with meditative practices and attitudes based on mindfulness to help us separate ourselves from our thoughts and moods and teaches us how to recognize our sense of being. It also helps us combat depressive and anxiety symptoms as they arise.

 

Narrative therapy is a style of therapy that helps people become an expert in their own lives. In narrative therapy, we basically “change our story”, or change the way we view our story.  This can be a powerful approach.

 

And finally, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which uses acceptance and mindfulness strategies along with commitment and behavior-changing strategies to increase psychological flexibility.
